Geraldine H. ‘Gerrie’ Smith

SYRACUSE — Geraldine H. “Gerrie” Smith, 95, of Syracuse passed away Sunday at her residence.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1917 in Fort Wayne to Robert T. and Evelyn (Druitt) Smith.

Gerrie lived and worked in Fort Wayne while also living and raising her family in the Syracuse area. Upon retiring from the Wayne Township Assessors office in Allen County, she moved full time to Syracuse.

She is survived by her three sons, Jay (Susan) Brouwer, Syracuse, Rob (Connie) Smith, Rockford, Mich., and Greg (Barb) Smith, Syracuse; two daughters, Bonnie (Ken) Eddleblute, Kingman, Ariz., and Susie (Jim) Johnson, Round Rock, Texas; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her late husbands, Lester Brouwer and Orrin Smith as well as a grandson, Will Laudick and a sister, Irene Hensler.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eastlund Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church, Syracuse.

Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
