Frances Funk

1922-Sept. 14, 2012

— BELCHERTOWN, Mass. — Frances Funk died peacefully at home Sept. 14, 2012.

Frances was born in 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, grew up in Windom, Ohio, and graduated from Bluffton College. She met her husband of 65 years, Melvin, in voluntary service with Mennonite Central Committee. Frances raised four children and cared for her parents in Illinois from 1950 to 1962 and Elkhart from 1962 to 2000.

She taught swimming at the Y, was active in her church and swam the Great Race until she was 80. She and Melvin moved to Goshen in 2000 and Massachusetts in 2009.

Frances is survived by her husband; her sister, Ann Mellinger, of Standish, Maine; her children and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gabriel and Alisa Funk of Anchorage, Alaska, John Funk of Portland, Ore., Deborah Funk of Aurora, Colo., and David, Aaron and Lydia Funk of Belchertown, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Nilsson of Canfield, Ohio.

Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at Hively Avenue Mennonite Church.
