Carolyn E. Swartzendruber

GOSHEN — Carolyn E. Swartzendruber 77, died Wednesday afternoon at Courtyard Healthcare after an extended illness.

She was born in Dalton, Ohio to Phares D. and Magdalena (Miller) Martin.

On Nov. 19, 1966 she married Sanford C. Swartzendruber in Rittman, Ohio.

He survives along with two sons, Calvin F. (Karen) Swartzendruber, Goshen, and Philip C. (Marie Ammerman) Swartzendruber, Seattle, Wa.; six grandchildren, Logan, Madison, Michaela, and Emily, Goshen, and Evan and Sophie, Seattle, Wa.; three sisters, Velma Souder, Telford, Pa., Grace Martin, Orrville, Ohio, and Lois (Dennis) Zimmerly, Sterling, Ohio; and two brothers, Ralph (Betty) Martin, Goshen, and P. Wesley (Mary Ellen) Martin, Orrville, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alice Martin.

Carolyn was a 1955 graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, Va., a 1959 graduate of Goshen College, and member of College Mennonite Church.

She worked as a registered nurse at Goshen General Hospital, Greencroft Healthcare, and Maple City Health Care. Along with her husband Sandy, she was co-owner and also bookkeeper at Precision Audio Inc.

Carolyn had a wide variety of interests, which included biking, cross-country skiing and gardening.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Koinonia Room, College Mennonite Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Pastor Pamela Yoder will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to College Mennonite Church.
