Joann Marie Comer

ELKHART — Joann Marie Comer, 63, of Elkhart, died at 8 am at home Friday after a long battle with lupus and cancer.

She married her best friend Lavon Comer in 1993. She was born on February 14, 1949 in Goshen, to Wallace and Tommie (Perrin) Moist.

She is survived by a son, Scott (Lara) Payne, and two daughters, Tammy (Scott) Weed, and Kathy Guevara, all of Elkhart; and a step daughter, Michelle Borkholder. She also survived by six grandchildren, Andrew (Shannon), Adam, and Aaron Weed, Chris Guevara, Chi Anna Olinger and Spencer Payne, all from Elkhart. Special friends Jody and Ian Kettering, Elkhart. Also surviving are her sisters Janie Tinkey and Janice (Carl) Ritter, Goshen.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Moist; her mother Tommie Moist; and a sister, Jean Smith.

She enjoyed baking doing crafts and she loved to embroider and crochet.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice House.

Walley Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

There will be a private burial set for a later date.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
