— MIDDLEBURY — Mervin T. Bender, 76, died from complications of an aneurism at 3:55 a.m. Thursday at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1936 in Middlebury, to Cephas and Fannie (Troyer) Bender.

On June 6, 1959, he married Virginia “Ginger” Patton in Middlebury.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Linda (Dave) Hamilton of Middlebury; two sons, Randy Bender of Middlebury and Larry Bender of Goshen; two grandchildren, Ashley Hamilton and Austin Bender; a sister, Marlene (Robert) Pletcher of Middlebury; and a brother, Gene Bender of Middlebury.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifford Bender; sister, Ida Ellen Miller; and an infant sister.

He worked as a salesman in the gas industry working many years at EZ Gas. He later worked as a salesman in the RV industry.

Mervin was a sports enthusiast who followed Indiana University and the Chicago Cubs. He played and coached fast pitch softball for many years and is in the Goshen Softball Hall of Fame.

There will be a time of visitation Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury.

Funeral services will take place Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, Middlebury. The Rev. Kent Miller will officiate.

Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.
