ELKHART — Eugene Lasarenko, 63, passed away on Monday at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Feb. 13, 1950 in Munich, Germany, to Wasili and Walentina (Sklifus) Lasarenko.

On Jan. 15, 1977, he married Rill L. Strausborger in Elkhart. She survives along with a daughter, Ashley N. Lasarenko of Elkhart; and two sisters, Irene Burke and Lucy (Rick) Pruitt, both of Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Also surviving are two nieces, a nephew, a great-niece and two great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Eugene became a U.S. citizen March 23, 1983. He graduated in 1968 from Goshen High School and attended Ball State University. He took great pride in building his family homes over the years and recently remodeling. Eugene worked for Johnson Controls, Western Rubber and at one time was the owner of GRL Enterprises. He currently was employed as IT manager at EFP.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Karen Bray from Trinity United Methodist Church will preside.

Burial will be at a later date in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
