Thomas R. Riggs

GOSHEN — The Rev. Thomas R. Riggs went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family and friends, Friday at 1:55 a.m. at his residence. He was 78 years old.
He was born Feb. 12, 1936 in Westborne, Tenn., to Walter Riggs and Flonnie Opal (Meadows) Lee.
He married Barbara J. (Denman) Riggs, Oct. 9, 1954 in Liberty.
He is survived by his wife; children; Kathryn Evans, James Riggs, Charles (Shirley) Riggs, Deborah Riggs, John (Chris Lorenzo) Riggs, Paul Riggs, David Riggs and Mark (Crystal) Riggs, Goshen; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Isham Lee; two sisters; and a great-grandchild.
He worked as a Goshen city ordinance administrator for 16 years, retiring in 2004. He pastored various Pentecostal churches in the area and attended New Paris Full Gospel Community Church and Goshen Pentecostal House of Prayer.
He was named Historian of the Year in 2012 and started the Dickerson Landing Neighborhood Association. He was also involved in the Historical Association and the Lincoln Highway Association. He was an avid steam engine buff.
Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The Revs. Fred Curry and Bill Lamb will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.
