SEQUIM, Wash. — On March 14, Col. Marvin P. Mann Jr., USMC (Retired) died peacefully at his home in Sequim. He had been diagnosed with extensive small cell carcinoma in late 2011.

Marv was born on June 19, 1932, in Goshen, Ind., to Marvin and Frances (Stepp) Mann. He attended Ashland University in Ohio before graduating from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.

On July 20, 1952, he married his longtime friend, Arleta Miller.

In 1953 he joined the Marine Corps, later attending Navy flight school. From 1964 to 1972, he flew more than 586 missions in Vietnam which included being the personal pilot for the Commanding General of FMFAC.

He moved to Napa, Calif. in 1979 after retiring from the Marine Corps, where he flew night cargo for Transamerica Airlines and Southern Air Transport. He also worked as a Realtor and was co-owner of an employment agency with his wife.

In 1991, Marv and his wife moved to Sequim, but also enjoyed their frequent and extensive RV trips. Marv also loved playing golf, bowling, dancing and growing beautiful roses. His family loved his lively stories of his many flying adventures.

Arrangements for cremation were through Linde-Price of Sequim. Inurnment will take place at Ocean View Cemetery at a later date. A celebration of life service with a Marine Corps Honor Guard took place March 20.

The Mann family is very grateful to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County who were so supportive in the last seven months of Marv’s life.
