GOSHEN — John E. Funk, 86, passed away Saturday at RiverCrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka.
He was born Aug. 5, 1926 in Athens, to Frank O. Funk and Fay (Kindig) Funk Olson.
He married Rosamond “Rose” Dahm Oct. 1, 1949, in Pierceton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2004.
He later married Sharon (Huffman) Redman May 9, 2009, in Goshen. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Regina (Jim) Jasiewicz, South Bend, and Michelle (Michael) Wantz, Goshen; five stepchildren, Michael (Rhonda) Marganti, Mark Marganti, Karen Mitchell, Kathi (Tim) Irons and Teresa (Jay) Cirks; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean (Pat) Funk; and two sisters, Norma Delaney and Joanne Duda.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two infant daughters, Pamala Sue and Rebecca Marie; and a great-grandson, Willis Wantz.
He worked as an Indiana State Trooper for 21 years and achieved the rank of First Sergeant of the Ligonier District. He also worked as personnel manager at NIBCO and as a realtor for Century 21 Bill Long Associates.
He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus; Maple City Kiwanis Club; The Elks, where he went through all of the chairs twice; and Pioneers of the State Police, where he served as treasurer. He was also a life member of the Goshen Salvation Army Board and served on the traffic safety committee.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Goshen with the Rev. Fathers Anthony Steinacker and Christopher Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery.
