Jacob U. Schwartz

BREMEN — Jacob U. Schwartz, age 54, of 1611 E. 3rd Rd., Bremen, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born Nov. 19, 1958 in Kalona, Iowa to Uriah M. and Mattie Marie (Miller) Schwartz. Jacob moved to Nappanee in the fall of 1998 from Hazelton, Iowa.

His first marriage was to Clara A. Mast, Sept. 24, 1981. She preceded in death Feb. 26, 1998. He then married Delores Amanda Ropp, Oct. 30, 1998. Jacob was a cabinet shop worker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Schwartz; a son, Uriah Jay Schwartz, at home; his mother-in-law (from his marriage to Clara), Susie Mast, Hazelton, Iowa; sisters, Anna Marie (Mervin) Mast, Katie Irene Hochstetler, both of Nappanee, Rosella U. (Henry) Wagler, Degraff, Ohio, Susan Mae (Eli) Schwartz, Hamilton, Mary U. (Wilmer) Schwartz, Bennington, Edna U. (Perry) Borntrager, Etna Green; brothers, Joseph U. (Florence) Schwartz, Centreville, Mich., Rudy U. (Polly) Schwartz, Chouteau, Okla.; stepsisters, Catherine Ropp, Kalona, IA, Margaret (Martin) Yoder, Rebecca Ropp, , Inez Ropp, all of Nappanee; and stepbrothers, Elson (Arlene) Ropp, Kalona, IA, Sanford Ropp, Goshen, Ira (Joan) Ropp, Milford; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Clara Schwartz, and a brother-in-law, Merlin Hochstetler.

Family and friends may call after 1 p.m. today and all day Tuesday at the family home. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Dennis Hochstetler residence (2735 Birch Road, Bremen). Officiating will be Bishop Henry Hochstetler and the Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church. Pallbearers will be Dennis and Howard Hochstetler, Wayne Helmuth, Mark Chupp, Jake Troyer and LaMoine Miller.

Burial will be in Borkholder Cemetery.
