GOSHEN — Doris L. Woodruff, 89, died at 5:50 a.m. Wednesday at Greencroft Goshen Health Care.
She was born on April 9, 1924 in Bremen, to Manford and Fannie M. (Crothers) Umbaugh. On Oct. 13, 1941, she married Charles M. Woodruff in Bremen. He died Oct. 31, 2002. She is survived by a son, James (Shari) Woodruff of Middlebury; a daughter, Kathy (Randolph) Mahnesmith of Fisherville, Va.; three grandchildren, Logan Woodruff of Osceola, Noell (Dean) Woodruff-Giudice of Mishawaka, and Ethan (Karen) Mahnesmith of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; one great-grandson, Zack Giudice of Mishawaka; two great-great granddaughters, Lilly Giudice-Madaras and Zoey Giudice-Madaras, both of Mishawaka; three sisters, Kathryn Bonder of Mishawaka, Carole (Sam) Kovacevich of Granger and Betty Borton of Mishawaka.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Matthew Mahnesmith; and two brothers, Kenneth Umbaugh and Ronald Hook.
Doris was a devoted wife and mother and a member of the Middlebury Church of the Brethren. She retired from the South Bend Tribune after working as the credit and purchasing manager for more than 20 years.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury, where memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. John Long officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend.
Memorial donations may be given to IU Health Goshen Home Care and Hospice or Greencroft Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
