NEW PARIS —
William E. Hollar, 92, C.R. 23, died Sunday at 4:10 p.m. at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
He was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Union Township, Elkhart County, to Joseph F. and Sylvia (Pippenger) Hollar.
He married Helen Hoover May 31, 1947. She died March 22, 2007.
He is survived by his sons, David L. Hollar, Shelburn, Steven W. (Judy) Hollar, New Paris, and Roger A. (Elizabeth) Hollar, Linden; daughter, Beverly Kryder, New Paris; sister, Delores (Don) Walker, Union, Mich.; brother, Dale (Barbara) Hollar, Florida; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and a sister.
He was a veteran of World War II, discharged in 1945. He worked as postmaster of New Paris for 21½ years and as a grocery salesman for 15 years. He was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, life member of the United States Marine Sixth Division Association and the American Legion. He graduated from New Paris High School and attended Butler University.
There will be a time of visitation Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, New Paris. The Rev. Rob Nelson will officiate.
Burial will be in New Paris Cemetery.
