Charles D. Ramer, 87, died Sunday at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1925 in Wawaka, to Carl and Mildred (Caldwell) Ramer.
He came to the LaGrange County area more than 50 years ago from Noble County. He was a self-employed livestock hauler and a member of the LaGrange Church of God.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.
On Oct. 13, 1945, he married Janis M. Riddle in Cosperville. She survives in Shipshewana.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ransom “Randy” Smith of LaGrange; three sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Rebecca Ramer of Goshen, Carl and Debra Ramer of Auburn and Malcolm and Kim Ramer of Bristol; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, William and Betty Ramer of Shipshewana.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Merrill Ramer.
Visitation will take place Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 W. Michigan St., LaGrange, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Brian VanOsdol will officiate.
Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
