Julia “Red” Scarbeary-Byrd

July 25, 1913-Aug. 30, 2013

SYRACUSE — Julia “Red” Scarbeary-Byrd, 100, passed away Friday at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse.

She was born July 25, 1913 to R. Ramey and Rosa (Davis) Whitaker.

She married Bueford Scarbeary who preceded her in death, then years later married Jessie Byrd, Who also preceded her in death.

She retired from the Dana Corporation in Syracuse.

She attended the Strong Tower Worship Center in Ligonier.

She is survived by her son, Bill Scarbeary, Columbia City; two daughters, Michele Morris, Libertyville, and Arlene Kincaid, Goshen; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; one sister, Monnie Lee, Goshen.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, four brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Eastlund Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at the Byer Cemetery in Syracuse.

There has been discussion at West Goshen Elementary School to require mandatory student uniforms in the future. How do you feel about the prospect of mandatory student uniforms in a public school environment?

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
