MILLERSBURG — Matthew M. Simmons, 17, died unexpectedly early Friday morning.

He was born Feb. 5, 1996, in Goshen, to Heather Simmons.

She survives along with a stepfather, Billy Silcox; his grandparents, Jeri and Gary Simmons, Millersburg; his uncle and aunt, Ian and Stacie Simmons, Syracuse; two cousins, Paige and Carter Simmons; and a great-grandmother, Patricia Walsh.

Matt was a student at Fairfield High School where he excelled academically, particularly in Physics, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. He was a member of the wrestling team and also held a job at the Lincolnway Mart, Goshen.

Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service. Family friend and church elder, Darin Holsopple, will officiate.

Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Matthew Simmons memorial fund, c/o Fairfield High School.
