NEW PARIS —
Delbert D. Burkholder, 89, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at IU Health Goshen Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 20, 1923, in New Paris, to Daniel and Mary (Hershberger) Burkholder.
On March 21, 1958, he married Dora Ellen Liebert Gill in Brookfield, Ill. She passed away Jan. 28.
He is survived by a son, Randall (Sharida) Burkholder of Middlebury; two stepdaughters, Lorraine Carson of North Webster and Donna Blough of Goshen; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two sisters, Marie Holderman of Portage, Mich., and Rachel Maggart of Mayo, Fla.; and a brother, Nelson (Pat) Burkholder of New Paris.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lizzie Sloan of Syracuse and Nellie Evans of Nappanee.
Delbert lived his entire life in the New Paris area. He worked several years for the Elkhart County Highway Department and retired from Smokercraft. His hobby was small engine repair.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at New Paris Church of the Brethren, 68170 C.R. 23, New Paris, with the Rev. Stan Godfrey of the church officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service.
Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
