May 23, 1947-Feb. 9, 2014

ELKHART — James “Jim” P. Kinzler, 66, passed away at 7:48 p.m. Sunday, at his home. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend.

He was born on May 23, 1947 in Joliet, Ill., to Raymond and Paula (Allard) Kinzler.

On April 20, 1968 in Joliet, Ill., he married Jackie Rys, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Scott (Jeannine) Kinzler of Terre Haute, Brett (Amy) Kinzler of Vail, Colo., and Brian (Claire) Kinzler of Boston, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Kristi Kinzler of Grandville, Mich.; and five grandchildren, Hannah Kinzler, Jake Kinzler and Josh Kinzler, all of Grandville, Mich., and Cassidy Kinzler and Ryder Kinzler, both of Vail, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Paula Kinzler; his son, Jason Kinzler; and his sister, Sharon Bullifin.

At his request, a celebration of life service will take place at a later date.

Jim graduated from Joliet Catholic High School and attended Northern Illinois University in 1970, where he completed a master’s degree in business administration. He had a successful career with Caterpillar in Illinois, worked at Abitibi Price in Michigan and most recently Louisiana Pacific in Middlebury as operations manager. Jim’s deep-rooted connection and fondness of his team brought him much joy.

Jim loved the outdoors, the mountains of Colorado, sharing music with his sons and walking the beaches of Florida. He was a sports enthusiast, but mostly he loved his family.

Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.

Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and a zest for life. We know he is smiling as he reflects that “you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need” ... He certainly was one to make sure everyone around him got what they needed.

Jim’s grandson Jake will be running in the Fifth Third River Bank Run for the Jason Kinzler Family First Foundation May 10. Jason ran this race in honor of his father, Jim, and now Jake is dedicating his run to his father, Jason, and grandpa. In lieu of flowers please assist Jake by making a donation to www.razoo.com/story/jake-kinzler, or kinzlerfoundation.org.
