---- — WARSAW — Charles Ira “Chuck” Klase, 84, of Chapman Lake, a former longtime resident of Goshen, passed away Jan. 31 due to complications from cancer. He was vacationing with family members in Tucson, Ariz., at the time of his passing.
Mr. Klase was a member of the United States Navy and served on the Aircraft Carrier, USS Leyte CV-32, during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.
In 1950, Charles was hired as a lineman for General Telephone Company, Elkhart, where he worked until his retirement in 1986 after 36 years of dedicated service.
He was a motorcycle enthusiast and former member of the American Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. Charles was a good family man, a loving father and grandparent. He was a friend to all and a true patriot.
He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Klase Uplinger, Goshen; son, Mark (Lauren) Klase of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Maxine Christner, Ligonier; brother, Richard Klase, New Paris; five grandchildren, James (Kelly) Kincaid, Elkhart, Angela Cockerill, Goshen, Jon Eiermann, Elkhart, Garret Nisley, Lafayette, and Taylor E. Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.; and four great-grandchildren, Shawn and Kaden Cockerill, Cameron Kincaid and Josh Schuller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Klase; a son, Michael E. Klase; and a brother, Dale Klase.
A memorial military service will take place at VFW Post 985 in Goshen at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or cards, memorial gifts may be made to the local hospice or cancer treatment facility of the donor’s choice.
