Jason S. Martin, 80, died Monday in his home at Greencroft Retirement Center, Goshen. Jason was born in Wakarusa to Joseph E. and Mary (Shaum) Martin on Jan. 23, 1927. He married Mary Fuss Baer Dec. 25, 1956, in Washington, D.C.
Jason was a retired Mennonite pastor, church consultant, congregational overseer and author. He received degrees from Goshen College, Goshen Biblical Seminary and the University of Notre Dame. In addition to serving as pastor and interim pastor of congregations in Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, and Nebraska, he served in 1-W (alternative service) with the Mennonite Board of Missions in Puerto Rico for two years, and taught Spanish at Jimtown High School.
He is survived by his wife Mary; three sons, Stephen, Walkerton, Philip (Judy Godshalk), Plymouth, Michel (Susan Harter), Wakarusa; a daughter, Judith, Springfield, Mo.; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers, Naaman (Ruth), Wakarusa, Allen (Ruth), Goshen, Rufus (Thelma) Nappanee, and Benjamin (Edith), New Market, Va.; and eight sisters, Susie Ramer, Celina, Texas, Ida Ramer, Goshen, Bertha Martin, New Paris, Grace Shirk, New Paris, Edna Brubaker, Nappanee, Miriam (David) Hoover, Goshen, Rhoda (Leonard) Martin, Goshen, and Suetta (James) Bechtel, Goshen.
A brother, Daniel (Katie), and three sisters, Barbara Brubacher, Emma Ramer and Ruth Brubaker, preceded him in death.
Visitation with the family will be at Yellow Creek (Brick) Mennonite Church, 64901 C.R. 11, Goshen, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at the church Sunday at 2 p.m. Officiating will be the Revs. David and Janice Sutter.
Jason chose to donate his body to Indiana University Medical Center for research.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee.
