Doris I. Inbody, 89, 2216 E. Kercher Road, Goshen, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday at her home from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease, from which she suffered the last eight to 10 years.
She was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Milford, Neb., to Joseph and Mattie (Troyer) Burkey. She was a longtime Goshen resident, living with her husband at the family farm for more than 50 years. She was a retired registered nurse.
She was married to Dale D. Inbody on March 23, 1957, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. He died June 26, 2005.
She graduated from Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She had worked in doctors’ offices and as a surgical nurse, with her longest term in the obstetrics department at Goshen General Hospital. She retired in 1980.
She was a long-time member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the United Methodist Woman. She volunteered her time at Oaklawn, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, was a member of Partners in Prayer and of Gideons International. She helped her husband on the family farm and was a person of deep faith, always ready to offer her compassion, love and caring to those in need and those who were hurting.
Survivors include a son, Randall J. Inbody, Elkhart; a daughter, Carla (Patrick) Bailey, Goshen; five grandchildren, Anna Bailey, Luke Bailey, Joel Bailey, Adam Inbody and Jared Inbody; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria Inbody and Trevor Inbody; two sisters, Lucinda Bachman, Goshen, and Betty Mae (Mel) Yoder, Goshen; and a brother, Arnold (Phyllis) Burkey, Milford, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Thomas Dale, on Jan. 16, 1978; and a brother, Kenneth Burkey.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today and Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. funeral at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
Pastor Mike Tarner of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery.
