Ivan L. Fissgus
May 17, 1913-Sept. 4, 2008
Ivan L. Fissgus, 95, 922 S. 16th St., Goshen, died Thursday at 8:50 p.m. at Goshen General Hospital where he had been a patient for two days following a stroke.
He was born May 17, 1913, in Goshen, to Irvin and Susie (Plank) Fissgus. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He was a lifetime area resident who worked in trailer factories.
He was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren, Goshen DAV Post 15, Goshen Moose and a life member of the Goshen VFW Post 985. He was a past member of the American Legion Post 30 and Goshen Eagles Club.
He married Bertha Stahly, Sept. 15, 1934, in Goshen. She died May 5, 2000.
Surviving are two sons, Roy Fissgus, Goshen, and Jerry (Aree) Fissgus, Anaheim, Calif.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Sala, who died in 1994; Goldie Straw, who died in 1985; and Viola Fissgus.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where the funeral service will take place Monday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Roy Stern of Goshen City Church of the Brethren will conduct the service.
Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
