Menno A. Kauffman

Nov. 29, 1927-July 5, 2009

Menno A. Kauffman, 81, 1208 Greencroft Drive, Goshen, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday at Greencroft Gables, where he had been for four days after being in failing health since June 21.

He was born Nov. 29, 1927 in Kenmare, N.D., to Alpha and Alma (Nusbaum) Kauffman.

He was married to Mabel Marie Yoder on Feb. 12, 1949 in Goshen.

He was a New Paris area resident since 1958.

He was self-employed, the owner of M&M Wood Shavings and Menno Kauffman Trucking. He also raised poultry for Pine Manor.

He was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, where he was a former deacon, and was a 1944 graduate of Hesston Academy.

Surviving are his wife, sons Robert Lee (Donna) Kauffman, Harrisonville, Pa., Larry Lee (Lavina) Kauffman, Hayward, Wis., and Richard Lee (Stella) Kauffman, New Paris; daughters Shirley Ann Kauffman, Phoenix, Ariz., Cheryl Ann (Ernest) Shaver, Phoenix, Ariz., and Carol Ann (Glen) Ramer, New Paris; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Esther Bontrager, Goshen; and brother Harold (Darlene) Kauffman, Conrath, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ezra, Mark, Andrew and Chancey Kauffman; and great-granddaughter Emily Grace Kauffman, who died in 2006.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. service Thursday at Salem Mennonite Church, located on C.R. 46 in New Paris. The service will be led by of the home ministry of Salem Mennonite Church.

Burial will be at Salem Mennonite Church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Northern Youth Programs or Heralds of Hope, Inc.
