Floyd Zimmerman Jr.

April 25, 1924-July 1, 2009

ELKHART — Floyd Zimmerman Jr., 85, died of natural causes Wednesday at 3:50 a.m. at his home.

He was born April 25, 1924, in Wakarusa, to Floyd and Grace (Flory) Zimmerman. He was raised by grandparents, Ezra and Minnie Zimmerman.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy who served his country during World War II. He worked at Nibco and retired from Gunite. After retiring, he worked in lawn care at Old Orchard Golf Course until his health forced him to retire. A member of Northside Church of the Nazarene, he served nearly 40 years as an usher. He loved to work with his flower gardens, enjoyed time with his family and his faithful dog, Tippy.

He married Frances Hoke Sept. 30, 1945. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Stephen (Phyllis) Zimmerman, Elkhart, Danny (Paula) Zimmerman, Constantine, Mich., and Shawnie Nickoson (Jimmy Panagopoulos), Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold, Devon and Cecil Zimmerman.

Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart.

The funeral service will take place Monday at 10 a.m. at Northside Church of the Nazarene, 53569 C.R. 7, Elkhart, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial with military honors will take place in Yellow Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Northside Church of the Nazarene.
