Freeman Otto

Jan. 2, 1929-July 1, 2009

KOKOMO — Freeman Otto, 80, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital and Healthcare Facility. He was a retired farmer.

He was born Jan. 2, 1929 in Douglas County, Ill., to Jerry and Elizabeth (Mast) Otto.

On Dec. 6, 1951, he married Mary Yoder. They lived in matrimony 57 years, six months and 25 days. She survives.

Also surviving are his son, Larry and his wife Mary Etta (Lambright) Otto, Shipshewana; three daughters, Katie Otto and her husband Jerry Bontrager, Kokomo, Carolyn Otto and her husband John Otto, Conneautville, Pa., Susanna Otto and her husband, Eldon Weaver, Kokomo; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Verna (Melvin) Chupp, Arcola, Ill.; two brothers, Simon Otto and wife Edna, Kokomo, and Jerry Otto Jr., Arcola, Ill.; and four sister-in-laws, Mattie Otto, Bunkerhill, Martha Otto, Humboldt, Ill., Mary Otto, Kokomo, and Ida Mae (Otto) Helmuth, Arcola, Ill.

Preceding him in death were five brothers, Albert, Henry, Ed, Fred, and Alvin; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ed Laura (Gingerich) Otto, and Jerry Jr. Anna Marie (Chupp) Otto.

Visitation will be at the Otto residence, 5590 E. 300 North, Kokomo, today from 2 to 8 p.m. and all day Friday.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 5398 E. 300 North, Kokomo. Bishop Marvin Otto will officiate and burial will follow in Christner Cemetery, Kokomo.
