DeVera M. Metzler

Aug. 29, 1926 — June 28, 2009

WAKARUSA — DeVera “Dee” M. Metzler, 82, died Sunday at 12:30 a.m. at her residence after a four-year illness.

She was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Elkhart, to Sylvia (Moore) and John V. Hull.

She spent her lifetime living in Elkhart and Wakarusa and was a graduate of Elkhart High School.

She married Clifford W. Metzler July 30, 1946, in Wakarusa. He survives.

She was a homemaker and worked at Miles Laboratories in Elkhart.

She was a member of Wakarusa United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, puzzles and gardening.

Along with her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Judy (Scott) Woldruff, Elkhart, and JoLynne (Randy) Slabaugh, Nappanee; a grandson, Rodney (Jennifer) Slabaugh, Nappanee; three granddaughters, Katie Hartman, Purdue University, Angie (Wes) Hahn, Mishawaka, and Sara (Matt) Zigich, Pinckney, Mich.; two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Nicole Slabaugh; and a sister, Betty Yoder, Columbus, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa.

The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ed Geleske, Wakarusa United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will take place at Olive East Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Wakarusa United Methodist Church.
