George F. Heffner
March 30, 1923-June 10, 2009
ELKHART — George F. Heffner, 86, 24597 C.R. 20 East, died Wednesday at 1:20 p.m. at Riverside Village, Elkhart.
He was born March 30, 1923, in Osceola, to Fred and Marie (Frailey) Heffner. He was a lifelong area resident.
He was a veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He was one of the founding owners and past president of Auspro Manufacturing Company. He was a past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 985, a member of Elkhart Disabled American Veterans 19 and the American Legion, Nappanee. He worked as a volunteer at the Harvest Basket and enjoyed camping, gardening and taking care of his yard.
He married Senora I. Neff Dec. 25, 1942, in Goshen. She preceded him in death.
Surviving are his daughter, Karen Douwsma, Elkhart; son, Randy A. Heffner, Orland; two grandchildren, Timothy Douwsma, Goshen, and Lori Bieganski, Goshen; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Pettit, Montpelier, Ohio, Carlie (James) Eldridge, Rolling Prairie, Marcelle Moors, Elkhart, Addaline (Doyne) Parker, Nappanee; two brothers, Curtis Heffner, Elkhart, and Orville Heffner, Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Pauline Meyers, Viola Laurance, Devere Cox and Carol Truex; and a brother, Kenneth Heffner.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, where the funeral service will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. John Piecuch, quartermaster of VFW 985, will lead the service.
Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to an agency of the donor’s choice.
