A Syracuse firefighter carries a ladder to the scene of a house fire at 10301 N. Grand Blvd. on the shore of Lake Wawasee Tuesday afternoon.

SYRACUSE — A fire destroyed a house along the southeast shore of Lake Wawasee Tuesday afternoon.

According to Mickey Scott, chief of the Turkey Creek Fire Territory, the fire was reported at 1:50 p.m. at 10301 N. Grand Boulevard. The address is on a small island and is accessed by a footbridge.

Scott said when firefighters arrived they determined no one was in the house. With the help of firefighters from the North Webster, Ligonier and Benton Township fire departments, the blaze was extinguished at 2:31 p.m., according to Scott. The Kosciusko County Squad 70 Fire Investigation Team and the American Red Cross also assisted at the scene. Firefighters left the scene at 6:08 p.m.

Scott said the house is owned by KRE Assets of Cromwell and the damage estimate was $90,000 and a cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
