INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana University Medical School has received a $60 million grant to recruit and train top researchers and other scientists.

The state's only medical school says in a news release that the grant from the Lilly Endowment will be used to implement what it's calling the Indiana Physician Scientist Initiative. The project will promote the development of scientific discoveries to improve human health and turn those discoveries into new products and treatments.

The initiative's goals include using $38 million to lure 20 top physician scientists in the fields of cancer, neuroscience and diabetes and vascular disease. It also will use $10 million to support a medical scientist training program at IU.
