The Goshen College Music Department has just released two new CD recordings.

The new CD “Song by Song” features the 2008-09 Chamber Choir and Chorale, directed by Professor of Music Debra Brubaker and Assistant Professor of Music Scott Hochstetler. The Goshen College Chamber Choir is an auditioned group of juniors and seniors performing secular and sacred music from the Medieval through Modern periods. The Goshen College Chorale sings primarily sacred repertoire from all periods of music history.

The new CD “Sisters and Brothers” features the 2008-09 Women’s World Music Choir and Men’s Chorus, also directed by Brubaker and Hochstetler. The CD features performances of world music, spirituals and choral arrangements.

The Women’s World Music Choir seeks to perform music of many cultures and to highlight the role of women in these cultures. The Men’s Chorus performs music from all genres and time periods with special emphasis on sacred a cappella literature.

Brubaker came to Goshen in 1999 and directs the Chamber Choir and the Women’s World Music Choir, which made its debut in the spring of 2004. She also directs the choral and opera theater programs, teaches church music courses and serves as department co-chairperson. She holds a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree of music from the University of Northern Colorado and a bachelor’s degree from Goshen College.

Hochstetler directs the Chorale and Men’s Chorus, and also teaches applied voice and conducting. He received a doctorate in choral conducting from Michigan State University, master’s degrees in conducting and voice from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree from Goshen College.
