Fort Wayne Wizards say goodbye to Memorial Stadium

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — The Fort Wayne Wizards minor league baseball team is preparing to play its last game at Memorial Stadium.

The team says tickets are still available for Thursday night’s game.

On opening day in 2009, the Wizards will play in a new $30 million downtown ballpark. The team will also announce a new name within the month.

General manager Randy Brown says the stadium will used for other events next spring, including high school games and a monster truck rally. Demolition is scheduled to begin next July.

The 6,300-seat stadium was completed in 1993 near Memorial Coliseum on the city’s north side.

The new ballpark is part of Fort Wayne’s $130 million Harrison Square development.
