Goshen alum Swihart making a mark at Bethel

GOSHEN — Four years ago, Aimee Swihart made an immediate impact on the Goshen High School girls basketball as a freshman.Three games into her collegiate career at Bethel College in Mishawaka she is making the same kind of lasting impression.Swihart poured in a career-high 37 points in just her second game as the Pilots were 87-85 winners over Indiana Tech in the University of Saint Francis Classic in Fort Wayne.Swihart was 10-of-19 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range and 13-of-19 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed three rebounds, dished out seven assists and made two steals in 32:25 of playing time. She started at guard.“Aimee had an unbelievable night – one of the best in the history of the Lady Pilots,” Bethel coach Jody Martinez said in a school press release.Her 37 points were the second most in the history of the program, behind Natalie Young, who scored 39 points at Olivet Nazarene University during the fall of her junior year (2006-07). Young in now an assistant coach in the Bethel program and the school’s sports information director.In first collegiate game, Swihart scored 10 points, snared seven rebounds, distributed five assists and made six steals in a 55-52 win over Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan.Saturday, in the second game of the Saint Francis Classic the Pilots dropped a 93-74 decision to Shawnee State as Swihart totaled 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and a steal.Swihart netted 172 points for Goshen in her freshman season, followed by 287 as a sophomore, 361 as a junior and 369 her senior season.

Women’s BasketballFreshman Savannah Bley (NorthWood) scored a point and pulled down six rebounds for Taylor University as the Trojans dropped a 71-55 decision to Purdue Calumet.Freshman KiLee Knafel (Wawasee) scored five points to go with two rebounds, two assists and a steal for the IUSB Titans in a 64-62 win over Grace College. Senior Lauren Adams (Northridge) chipped in with two points, two rebounds and two assists for the winners.
