MIDDLEBURY — The Warsaw Tigers sent a message to the other high school girls track and field teams in the NLC with a pair of impressive league wins Tuesday night at Northridge.

Warsaw defeated the host Northridge Raiders 99-33 and the Wawasee Warriors 116-15 on what has to be by far the nicest evening of the spring track season. The host Raiders defeated Wawasee 110-22.

“Warsaw really looked good,” Northridge coach Josh Fletcher said. “They have talented kids that have the will to win.”

Wawasee coach Scott Lancaster said. “What can I say? We were going up against two very talented teams with a roster of mostly freshman and sophomores. The was an eye opener for us. Many of our girls are in their first year in the sport. Still we made progress in a number of areas.”

The teams will be back in action next Tuesday when Warsaw hosts the conference meet.

The Raiders got things off to a good start as the foursome of senior Mandy Campbell, freshman Morgan Blyly, senior Mackenzie Gray and senior Jennifer Schrock finished first in the 4 x 800 relay (10:20.47). The Warsaw team of junior Aletheia Burritt, senior Cynthia Yoder, freshman Emma Hayward and sophomore Kendra Paton were second in 11:00.07.

“I have been so proud of our 4 x 800 all season,” Fletcher said.

Northridge’s other win was by senior Madison Stewart in shot put (38-5 1/2).

“Madison has been very consistent all season,” Fletcher said. “I don’t want to say she is a guarantee of points in every meet, but Madison is one that we can depend on each time out.

“She has spent a lot of time working with (throws coach) Chris Howell.”

Wawasee senior Jordan Edington was second at 37-9 1/2.

“Jordan has made progress in the shot,” Lancaster said. “She has a technical issue she needs to clean up. It could be a real dogfight to get out of the regional this season.”

Stewart had one throw estimated near 41-0, but she scratched.

Earlier this season, Stewart uncorked a toss of 40-0 1/2, breaking the school record of 38-9 by Jill Weirich back in 1994.

It was one of the program’s oldest records.

On Tuesday, Stewart placed second in discus (113-3) to Warsaw senior Samantha Jensen (118-1).

Junior Olivia Golden was the runner-up in the 1,600 (5:18.13) and 3,200 (11:59.37) for the Raiders. Senior Mandy Campbell finished second in the 800 (2:29.36), junior Christina Juroff second in long jump (16-10 1/4), freshman Alyssa Zook senior Mackenzie Gray, Blyly and Campbell were second in the 4 x 400 relay (4:23.00).
