PREP GIRLS TENNIS: Falcons triumph

Fairfield blanks Lakeland in NECC matchup

BENTON — Tennis teams want to peak at the right time. For area prep girls squads, that is around the time conference tournaments start.

Fairfield appears to be on track. The Falcons swept NECC foe Lakeland, 5-0 Thursday afternoon.

Fairfield is now on a collision course with Angola, which is also undefeated in NECC play. The two teams meet Tuesday night at Fairfield with the regular season conference crown at stake.

Fairfield coach Todd Filbrun likes where is his team is as the postseason run approaches.

“It’s been a disjointed spring so far with the weather,” Filbrun said.

“I feel like we are still trying to figure out who we are.”

“That has been the key for us,” Mast said.

She added that the indoor tennis court at her home has helped the Falcons keep their skills sharp as challenging weather conditions have wreaked havoc with spring sports  schedules across the area.

“We have done a good job of keeping focused,” Mast added. “We need to keep doing that.”
