LITTLE LEAGUE: Goshen drops consolation game

Local nine unable to hold 2-run lead, fall to Terre Haute to close out state tournament play at Concord.

GOSHEN — A fun baseball season ended Thursday for the 11-year-old All-Stars of Goshen Little League.

Leading Terre Haute 2-0 going into the sixth and potential final inning of a consolation contest, Goshen couldn’t get that critical 18th out in time.

Terre Haute tied it with two runs in the top of the sixth and scored seven times in the extra seventh inning for a 9-2 tally at Concord Little League.

The highlight of the game for Goshen was the pitching of Antonio Garcia Sanchez who shut out Terre Haute over the first five innings, allowing two hits while striking out four and walking one.

Goshen had its best defensive performance of the postseason with third baseman Mason Schrock, shortstop Braxton Kincaid, second baseman Josh Haimes and first baseman Joseph Good excellent and errorless on the infield.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Goshen took a 2-0 lead.

Good singled with one out and went to second on an error. After a second out, Jocsan Sanchez singled to left and Good scored.

Sanchez later stole home while a play was being made on Schrock at first base.

Other Goshen safeties were singles by Kincaid in the first inning, James Troyer in the second, Haimes and Porter Revoir in the seventh.

The original field of 14 teams is being reduced to a Final Four today.

Semifinal games are slated for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Saturday with the championship contest at 10 a.m. Sunday at Concord Little League, C.R. 18 and Old C.R. 17.

Goshen, champion of District 14, finishes tournament play with a 5-3 record.
