State track and field finals today, Saturday

GOSHEN — It’s championship weekend in the state of Indiana when it comes to high school track and field.

The IHSAA girls meet is today and the boys Saturday at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex on the Indiana University campus in Bloomington.

Admission is $10.

Action begins on both days at 3 p.m. with competition in pole vault, long jump and discus. High jump and shot put start at 3:30. The 4 x 800-meter relay is slated for 4:15 p.m. Running trials in the 100, 100 hurdles (110 highs for the boys) and 200 start at 5. Running finals start at 6:15.

Jessica O’Connell of Concord is the No. 13 seed in the 100 hurdles (15.23) and No. 7 in the 300 hurdles (45.23). Kloee Fitch of Lakeland is seeded sixth in discus (140-8).

Among the top seeds in the boys meet are Blake Kramer of Elkhart Memorial eighth in the 800 (1:55.72) and ninth in the 1,600 (4:20.10) and Cameron Kitson of Fairfield ninth in the 110 high hurdles (14.72).

History will be made this weekend as its ‘Champions Together’ partnership with Special Olympics Indiana (SOIN) holds the inaugural Unified Track and Field state championship in conjunction with the IHSAA boys and girls track and field state championships.

The Unified Meet will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. with competition in the 100, 400, 4 x 100 relay, long jump and shot put.
