GOSHEN — Goshen High School’s softball team has been struggling on offense as of late, and that continued Wednesday night as the Redskins dropped a 9-0 decision to visitinbg Warsaw in an NLC contest at Shanklin Park.

The Redskins (3-9 overall, 0-2 NLC) managed just three hits against Warsaw starter Kayleigh Speicher: Two singles by Lacee Mulcahey and one by Taylor Caouette.

The Tigers (1-4, 1-1) did most of their damage in the first two frames, with a run in the first and six in the second. They pounded out nine hits on the night against the Redskins.

“Our defense did a better job tonight,” Warsaw coach Jim Speicher said. “We played error-free softball, and that helps everyone when that happens.”

For Goshen coach Cassie McCormack, one of the keys to improvement for her team is going to be cleaning up its defensive play.

More practice time will help with that — this spring’s inconsistent weather has limited the Redskins’ workout time.

“The effort is there,” McCormack said. “The girls just have to keep battling.”

The Redskins travel to East Noble for a nonconference contest tonight.

The Redskins fell to Warsaw, 11-5 in the J.V. contest in a game that was halted in the sixth inning due to lightning.

Zaytiah Nolan was 4-for-5 and Cassier Brown went 2-for-4 for Goshen. Morgan Walker had five strikeouts in the circle for the J.V. Redskins.
