EMMA — The annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair got under in two age divisions on Monday night.
Finalists were determined for the championship game in the female age 13-15 division while semifinalists were determined in the male age 10-12 group.
Both divisions will be back in action on Thursday evening.
Action in the tournament resumes tonight in the male age 13-15 division and on Wednesday in the male age 19-30. Starting time both nights is 6:30 p.m.
The last game Monday night was the closest of the evening as Team Hales advanced to the championship with a 14-13 win over Team Zook. The two teams were tied 13-13 after the 25 minute game clock expired forcing a sudden death situation. Team Zook won the coin toss and got the ball first. Their scoring attempt was foiled by a shot block by Grace Hales. Hales then fed the ball inside to Maria McCoy for the game-winner.
Other members of Team Hales are Bailey Hochstetler and Becca Schermerhorn.
Playing for Team Zook were Alyssa Zook, Ellie Lengacher, Bailey Carithers and Kelly Miller.
In the other semifinal Team McKinley moved on to the championship with a 15-10 win over Team Thaxton. Team McKinley is made up of Brooke McKinley, Carissa Kine, Sara Doi and Delaney Graves. Team Thaxton was comprised of Lexi Thaxton, Justyce Warren. Nene Carruthers and Lexi Zook.
Team Hales and Team McKinley will meet in the finale Thursday around 9 p.m.
In the male 10-12 division, Team Pearsion and Team Good will square off in one semifinal Thursday around 7:20 p.m. Team Pearison is made up of Austin Pearison, Ryan Charles, Tarron Jones and Ben Foster. Playing for Team Good were Joseph Good, Bryant Robinson, Porter Revior and Austin Cain.
The other semifinal, also Thursday around 7:20, marches Team T. Brown and Team Hales. Playing for Team T. Brown were Trevor Brown, Carter Stoltzfus, Clayton Stoltzfus and Logan Hooley. Members of Team Hales were Elijah Hales, Charlie Yoder, Nick Rensberger and Matthew Jones.
