COLLEGE CONNECTIONS: Former Fairfield star digs college



Women’s Basketball

Senior Ashlee Ort (Wawasee) netted 16 points as she made 6-of-11 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws for the Bethel College Pilots in a 65-56 Crossroads League win over Huntington. She also had five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Twelve of her points came during a nine-minute stretch in the first half as Ort was the only Pilot to score.

“We had great effort tonight on both ends,” said Bethel coach Jody Martinez on the school’s Web site. “Ort got us going on the offensive end scoring our first 12 points. She also did a great job of rebounding.”

Indiana Wesleyan junior Taylor Goshert (Wawasee) scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds, but the No. 1 ranked Wildcats dropped a 50-48 decision to the Bethel Pilots. Ashlee Ort had four points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal for the Pilots.

Men’s Swimming

Sophomore Matt LeMasters (Elkhart Central) finished 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:52.46) and 16th in the 500 free (5:14.30) and freshman Ben Weingart (Elkhart Memorial) seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.18) and 11th in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.54) for the IUPUI Jaguars in the Butler Invitational that was held at Fishers High School.

Women’s Swimming

Freshman Sarah Rozow (Wawasee) placed 10th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.69) and 11th in the 400 individual medley (4:59.63) for the IUPUI Jaguars in the Butler Invitational that was held at Fishers High School.

Last weekend (July 12) the Goshen Parks Department held its Kid’s Try-athlon to promote childhood fitness and this week (July 18) the new bicycle trail is open to the fairgrounds in Goshen, offering residents a healthy way to get to the annual agriculture exposition.
