PREP BOYS GOLF: Local teams ready for their short season

GOSHEN — Boys golf is generally the last of the spring sports to get their season underway with the local teams beginning today or early this coming week.

The 78th annual state tournament begins at the sectional level. Sectionals can be held on Friday, June 6, Saturday, June 7 or Monday, June 9 depending on the host school.

Sectional Seven includes Elkhart Central, Elkhart Christian Academy, Elkhart Memorial, John Glenn, LaVille, Mishawaka, Mishawaka Marian, Penn, South Bend Adams, South Bend Clay, South Bend Riley, South Bend St. Joseph and South Bend Washington. Sectional Eight has Bethany Christian, Bremen, Concord, Fairfield, Goshen, Jimtown, Lakeland, Northridge, NorthWood, Prairie Heights, The Howe School, West Noble and Westview.

Both local sectionals feed into the Warsaw regional at Stonehenge Golf & Country Club in Winona Lake. Dates are either Thursday, June 12 or Friday, June 13.

The state finals are slated for Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18 at The legends Golf Course in Franklin.

Bethany Christian

Coach: Lyle Miller (0-24 in three seasons).

Last season’s record: 0-9.

Returning letterwinners: Seniors — Ryan Miller, Justin Zehr. Junior — Zack Zmudzynski. Sophomore — David Kauffman.

Other varsity candidates: Freshmen — Bryce Miller, Zane Zmudzynski.

Home course: Black Squirrel.


Coaches: Larry Bilger and Greg Martin.

Last season’s record: 15-8 (2-5 in NLC).

Graduation losses: Timothy Johnson, Nick Newcomer.

Returning letterwinners: Seniors — A.J. Sandlin. Juniors — Noah Gonyon, Peyton Kime, Cole Wilkerson.
