---- — EMMA — Another year, another Class 2A sectional boys basketball title.

Westview made it six sectional crowns in the last 10 seasons Saturday night with a 60-49 win over Bremen in the finals of the Westview Sectional.

Despite the seemingly close final score, this one was not really in doubt down the stretch: The Warriors emptied their bench with a 23-point lead late and Bremen mounted a late rally against Warrior reserves.

Westview coach Rob Yoder said his team’s quick start made the difference.

“It’s always nice to get off to a good start in a game like this,” Yoder said.

The Warriors (20-4) served early notice in this one that they were more than ready to take care of business against the Lions, opening with a 17-6 run and leading 24-9 at the first stop.

Westview led 37-20 at intermission and surged out to the aforementioned 23-point advantage with 24.3 seconds left in the third stanza.

Bremen (4-18) opened the final frame with a 13-1 to run to cut it to nine at 48-39, but the Warriors re-inserted some of their starters and held off the Lions down the stretch.

Bremen coach Ryan Eakins was proud of his young team’s fight. The Lions started a freshman and three sophomores and lose just three seniors.

“We didn’t do a very good job of adjusting to Westview’s physical style of play,” Eakins said. “A young team has to learn how to do that.”

Joey Atkins led the Lions with 10 points. Matt Box added 10.

Jamar Weaver was a force for the Warriors from the outside, with 20 points, including five 3-pointers.

It was just one of those nights when the shots fell, Weaver said.

“We noticed early that Bremen was playing a little soft on the perimeter,” Weaver said. “I’m a shooter, my teammates found me, and I hit the shots.”

Weaver had just two points in Friday night’s semifinal win over LaVille.

That’s just the kind of depth Yoder likes to see.

“Good teams have more than one player who can make plays,” Yoder said.

In addition to Weaver’s 20, the Warriors got 15 points from Chandler Aspy and 10 from Judah Zickafoose.

The Warriors will take on the Hammond Bishop Noll, the winner of the Hebron Sectional in next Saturday’s second game of the North Judson Regional. Noll defeated Whiting, 65-52 in Saturday night’s championship game.

The North Judson Regional also includes the winners of the South Adams Sectional and the Rensselaer Sectional.

Winamac defeated North Judson in the finals of the Rensselaer Sectional.

Woodlan and Fort Wayne Canterbury play in the finals of the South Adams Sectional Monday night.

Tipoff for Westview’s regional semifinal contest against Noll is tentatively slated for 12:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time next Saturday.
