Zach Hochstedler and Brian Ulrich were two of the leaders for the Bethel College men’s golf team in the NCCAA Men’s Championship at The Hombre Golf Course in Panama Beach City, Fla.
Hochstedler, a freshman from Fairfield, tied for 31st place among the individuals with a 75-75—150 and Ulrich, a junior also from Fairfield, shared 65th with an 80-80—160.
Bethel was tied for 14th place among the teams.
Sophomore Julie Jesse (Goshen) finished first in one-meter diving with 226.35 points and third in three-meter diving with 197.62 as the Midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy opened the season with a 163-137 over the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Senior Emily Wisolek (Northridge) placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.30) and second in the 200 backstroke (2:07.67) as the Ball State Cardinals dropped a 162-138 decision to Ohio University to open the season. Junior Jamie Denlinger (Northridge) finished fourth in diving (207.53) and junior Kayla Hussey (Goshen) fifth in the 200 butterfly (2;16.96) and sixth in the 1,000 free (11:19.92).
Sophomore Breanna Ghigliotto (NorthWood) set a school record in winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.87) as Franklin defeated Coe 162-61 and Illinois College 168-42.
Senior defensive specialist Bethany Brewer (NorthWood) had 11 digs and junior outside hitter Krystle Troyer (Elkhart Memorial) 22 kills, 19 digs and an ace for the IUSB Titans in a 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13 win over Robert Morris at Arlington Heights, Illinois. The Titans also defeated St. Zavier 25-21, 25-17, 25-20 as Brewer amassed 14 digs and Troyer 15 kills, seven digs, a setting assist, an ace and a blocking assist.
Sophomore outside hitter-defensive specialist Haley Bechtel totaled 14 digs for the Campbellsville Tigers in a 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 26-24 win over Shawnee State and a kill and four digs in a 23-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 victory at Rio Grande.
Indiana Wesleyan was a 25-13, 25-12, 25-11 winner over Huntington as freshman defensive specialist Raina Troyer (Fairfield) served three aces and had two digs for the winners.
Freshman setter Riley Troyer (Fairfield) tallied 12 digs, 11 assists and two aces for the Anderson Ravens in a 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-14 loss to Hanover and seven assists, five digs and three kills in a 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 loss to Defiance.
The Bethel Pilots were 18-25, 25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 15-13 winners over Grace College. Senior defensive specialist Amanda Troyer (Elkhart Memorial) had 36 digs and freshman outside hitter Hanna Stump eight kills, six digs and two blocking assists for the winners.
Sophomore defensive specialist Alena Yoder (Bethany Christian) 13 a team-high 13 digs for Eastern Mennonite in a 25-19, 18-25, loss to Washington and Lee. Yoder had 10 digs in a 25-21, 25-19, 25-12 loss to Catholic.
Senior middle blocker Brittany Anglemyer (Elkhart Memorial) recorded eight kills, two digs and a blocking assist for the Indianapolis Greyhounds in a 25-21, 25-18, 31-29 win over Ferris State and 14 kills, a solo block and a blocking assist in a 25-22, 25-19, 14-25, 25-14 loss to Hillsdale.
Sophomore defender Jacob Smith (NorthWood) netted a goal for the Manchester Spartans in a 3-1 win over Mt. St. Joseph College.
Women’s Cross Country
Junior Desiree Maran (Goshen) finished 139th (20:45.32) for the Anderson Ravens in the JennaStrong Fall Classic at Willmington College in Willmington, Ohio. Anderson placed 20th out of 24 teams.
