PREP BASEBALL: Goshen coach Farmwald resigns

GOSHEN — Goshen High School is looking for a new varsity baseball coach.

School officials confirmed on Tuesday to The Goshen News that Hal Farmwald, who coached the Redskins for six seasons and was also a business teacher at the high school, submitted his resignation last Friday for “personal reasons.”

Goshen High School athletic director Larry Kissinger said the position will be posted immediately, but there is no current time frame for bringing in a new coach.

Kissinger said staff at the high school were informed of Farmwald’s resignation Friday via an email from Principal Barry Younghans. Kissinger referred all other questions to Goshen Schools Superintendent Diane Woodworth, who isued a statement to the media.

“On Friday, September 13, 2013, Hal Farmwald, a Goshen High School teacher and varsity baseball head coach, submitted his resignation for personal reasons,” Woodworth said. “Since that time, social media and the local rumor mill have erupted with a multitude of inaccuracies.  It is the policy of Goshen Community Schools not to comment publicly on personnel matters.  All applicable procedures or reporting requirements have been followed by the school corporation ... District officials emphasize that the focus of Goshen Community Schools remains on ensuring that students receive an outstanding education and achieve excellence in a safe environment in academics, athletics and the arts.”

Reached Tuesday afternoon, Farmwald said his resignation was for “personal reasons” and declined to comment further.

Farmwald had guided the Redskin baseball program since November 2007. He led Goshen to a sectional title during the 2008 season, his first.

Farmwald is a 1977 graduate of NorthWood High School and also a Goshen College graduate.
