COLLEGE CONNECTIONS: Burtch excels in pool for E. Mich.

GOSHEN — Eastern Michigan freshman Audra Burtch (Concord) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.9), second in the 1,000 free (10:33.41) and eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:17.23) as the Eagles defeated Bowling Green, 166-128, in a Mid-Central Conference women’s swimming meet in Yipsilanti, Michigan.

Women’s Swimming

Freshman Sarah Rozow (Wawasee) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.05) and fourth in the 200 back (2:16.45) for the IUPUI Jaguars defeated Western Illinois 114-21, Saint Louis 87-51 and Marshall 77-55 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Freshman Hannah Deak (Northridge) was second in the 200 butterfly (2:18.93) for Grand Valley State in a 189-111 loss to Wayne State.

Freshman Brittany Robinson (Wawasee) placed second in the 100 butterfly (26.29) for the Louisville Cardinals in a 188-104 Big East win over the Cincinnati Bearcats at the Ralph Wright Natatorium in Louisville.

Sophomore Spencer Chappell (Northridge) finished second in the 100 backstroke (59.21) and fourth in the 200 back (2:08.69) for the Fordham Rams in a 166-128 win over Williams and a 223-75 win over Boston College.

Men’s Swimming

Senior Korey Schrock (Concord) was second in one-meter diving (249.60 points) as the Louisville Cardinals were 183-100 winners over the Cincinnati Bearcats in a Big East meet at the Ralph Wright Natatorium in Louisville.

Sophomore Nathaniel Stoller (Northridge) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (51.61) for Grand Valley State in a 165-135 win over Wayne State. Stoller teamed with sophomore Sven Kardo, juniors Aaron Markan and Kyle Gunderson for a second in the 400 medley relay (3:28.79).

Rose-Hulman junior Andrew Podgorski (Goshen) was sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.60) in the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis. Rose-Hulman finished fourth in the team standings.

Freshman Ben Weingart (Elkhart Memorial) placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.93) for IUPUI in a 73-67 win over Western Illinois and an 82-58 loss to Saint Louis at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Men’s Basketball

The NAIA Division II No. 21 ranked Bethel Pilots fell to 7-1 in the Crossroads League with a 61-45 loss to No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan. Junior Taylor Kolbus (Goshen) totaled two points, three rebounds and a block for the winners.

Senior Ethan Hussey (Goshen) scored 13 points (7-of-8 free throws) to go with three rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Saint Francis Cougars in a 74-69 Crossroads League win over the Grace Lancers. Senior Elliot Smith (Northridge) had eight points, two assists and two steals for the Lancers.

IUSB freshman Riley Stichter (Wawasee) had two points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block as the Titans defeated Purdue North Central, 70-36, at LaPorte.

Women’s Basketball

Junior Taylor Goshert (Wawasee) had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the NAIA Division II No. 1 ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats in a 60-42 Crossroads League victory over the Bethel Pilots. Sophomore Emma Stahl (Jimtown) chipped in with two points and a rebound for the Wildcats.

Senior Ashlee Ort (Wawasee) totaled four points, five rebounds and two assists for the Pilots.

Sophomore Sarah DeShone (Jimtown) totaled seven points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Ferris State Bulldogs in a 47-46 win over Northern Michigan.

Men’s Indoor Track

Sophomore Tanner Foust (Fairfield) was the highest-placing Bethel Pilot in a meet at Grand Valley State that included NCAA schools like Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State. Foust finished second in high jump at 1.95 meters.

Women’s Indoor Track

Vanderbilt freshman Skyler Carpenter (Westview) placed 16th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.18), 18th in the 200 meters (25.62) and 11th in long jump (18-1 1/2) for the Commodores in the University of Kentucky Invitational at Nutter Fieldhouse in Lexington, Kentucky.

Carpenter also teamed with senior Kristen Findley, freshmen Sara Barron and Hannah Jumper for a second in the distance medley relay (11:35.72).

Sophomore Cinnamon Green (Jimtown) placed 11th (15.5 meters) in the weight throw for the Bethel Pilots in a meet at Grand Valley State that included NCAA schools like Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State.
