Goshen 2-0 after home win over Bremen

GOSHEN — Some nights, you just say, “A win is a win.”

The Goshen High School girls basketball team had one of those nights on Saturday night  at home against Bremen, getting out to a big early lead before cruising to a 67-30  win over the Lions in a nonconference contest.

With the win, the Redskins improved to 2-0 on the young season.

Junior guard Deja Felder led the Redskins with 24 points, on 8-of-18 shooting from the field. Senior guard Aimee Swihart added 21 points.

With her point totals in the first two games of the 2012-13 season, Swihart is 12 points shy of the Goshen career points record: 883 points, set by Carol Hoogenboom from 1977-80.

Swihart could break the record Tuesday night at home when the Redskins host Mishawaka Marian.

Goshen spotted the Lions the opening bucket, but then ripped off a 10-2 tun and never looked back.

The Redskins kept up the intensity on both ends of the floor  in the second quarter as Goshen outscored Bremen 22-7 in the stanza to take a 36-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Goshen coach Lenny Krebs said he was pleased to be able to get some younger players into the game in the second half.

“It was a chance for some of the younger players to see a defense (the 1-3-1) that they don’t get to see all that often,” Krebs said.

Krebs added that for the most part, he was pleased with the Redskins’ play on both ends of the floor.
