County Hall of Fame adding 24
Two dozen are scheduled for induction to the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 14, at The Matterhorn in Elkhart.
Social hour is at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 and induction program at 7:30.

Following are members of the 2009 induction class:
Don Lewallen
Don is a 1982 graduate of Goshen High School where he earned three varsity letters in both football and baseball. A linebacker, he helped the football Redskins to a state runnerup finish in 1981, graduating with school records for career tackles, single-season tackles and tackle points. He was twice an all-NLC selection and three times on the All-State team. As a baseball player, he was on a Goshen team which won sectional and regional championships in 1981.
Ron Lewallen
Twin brother of Don, Ron also lettered three times in football and baseball at GHS. A tailback in football, he was the state’s leading scorer as the Redskins were state runnersup. He was regional MVP, all-NLC and first-team All-State. He graduated with Redskin records for single-season points (174) and rushing yards (1591). He played that summer for the North All-Stars. He had a .413 career batting average in baseball, being named to the all-NLC team twice.
Carl Weaver
Carl graduated from Bethany Christian High School in 1965. He is being inducted for his remarkable record as cross country and track and field coach at Goshen High School from 1970 to 2005. Weaver was 78-37 in boys cross country for seven years, 117-53 in boys track for 22 seasons and 29-15 in girls track for five. He coached 58 state qualifiers, received the NLC service award in 2003 and was Goshen Relays honorary referee last April.
Amy (Bechtel) Garber
Amy is a 1996 graduate of Fairfield High School where she earned 12 varsity letters — four each in volleyball, basketball and tennis. She was team MVP and all-NECC in volleyball; scored a school-record 1,534 career points in basketball, was two-time county scoring champion and averaged 15.5 rebounds as a senior. She was all-NECC in tennis and a two-time regional qualifier at No. 1 doubles. She went on to play at Huntington University, setting a basketball scoring record with 2,019 points.
Brodie Garber
A 1995 Fairfield graduate, Brodie won 11 letters among tennis, basketball and baseball. He was Falcon “Athlete of the Year” as a senior. He was twice team MVP and all-NECC in tennis; scored 1,076 career points in basketball while being named team MVP and all-NECC; and batted .529 during the 1995 baseball season, No. 2 in the state. He went on to tally 1,766 career points in Huntington University basketball and earned three baseball letters there.
Gessica Hufnagle
Gessica is a 2003 graduate of Northridge High School where she lettered four times each in soccer, basketball and softball. She was twice team MVP, three times all-NLC, first team All-State and a North All Star in softball. Hufnagle scored a school-record 30 points in one basketball game and was co-MVP of the soccer team as a senior. She went on to earn four varsity letters in softball at the University of Notre Dame.
Roger Prough
Roger is a 1994 Northridge graduate, lettering four times each in basketball and baseball. He averaged 20.5 points in his senior basketball season, earning all-N:C and all-sectional honors. Prough was also the county’s career leader in 3-pointers made and No. 3 on the school career scoring chart. Northridge was 62-25 during his baseball days. He hit .325 as a senior and had a 1.55 pitching ERA. Roger went on to letter four years in basketball at Goshen College, scoring a school-record 1,900 points.
Joel Miller
Joel is a 1965 Middlebury High School graduate, earning 10 letters among basketball, baseball, track and golf. Upon graduation, he had the Middies basketball record for 465 points in a season and 36 in one game. He was named to the all-sectional team as a senior. Joel was named an all-county baseball player two straight summers. He went on to earn three varsity letters in basketball at Tulane University in New Orleans.
Larry Crilow
Larry is a 1973 graduate of Bethany Christian High School where he lettered three times each in track, baseball and basketball. He set a Bethany record with 45 points in a single game, made 208 free throws and had 162 steals. Crilow was No. 4 on the school’s career scoring list with 922 points.
Brad Schrock
Brad graduated from Bethany Christian in 1998 and earned 10 varsity letters among tennis, basketball and baseball. In baseball he had a career-best 191 strikeouts, 14 wins and 190 innings pitched. In basketball, he helped lead the Bruins to their first Class 1A semistate championship. Schrock scored 558 career points, was fifth in career assists, sixth in free-throw percentage and seventh in steals. He played two college baseball seasons at Glen Oaks and two are Carson Newman.
Steve Adams
Steve is a 1981 graduate of Concord High School where he earned 10 letters in three sports — football, wrestling and track. In football, he graduated as No. 2 career rusher for the Minutemen while attaining all-NLC and team MVP honors. Adams was a sectional track champion in the 400 meters and 1600 relay as a senior. In wrestling, he was a three-time sectional champion and two-time regional winner.
Daniel Martin
Daniel graduated from Concord in 2000, most notably winning a state championship in the 300-meter hurdles his junior year. He finished second as a sophomore and senior. Martin earned three letters in football, playing for a Class 4A state runnerup team in 1999. At that time, he was a career receiving leader for the Minutemen. Daniel went on to earn four track and field letters at Indiana University.
Vance Lopp
Vance participated in track, football and basketball for the Nappanee Bulldogs, graduating in 1957 with 10 varsity letters. He was part of a Nappanee mile relay team which won an Elkhart County meet title in 1954. The football Bulldogs were 22-4 during his playing days and he scored 623 career points in basketball as Nappanee went 55-13.
Randy Loucks
Randy is a 1976 graduate of NorthWood High School where he earned three letters apiece in football, basketball and baseball. He was a captain of all three teams during his senior year. Loucks was baseball MVP in 1976, leading the Panthers in hitting. Moving on to Taylor University in Upland, Loucks lettered three years in baseball and two in football.
Jack and Nadine Lengacher
This Wakarusa couple is being inducted for their work as volunteers in that community. They founded the Wakarusa youth baseball and softball programs in 1978. It began with 110 youngsters and now has about 550.
Monte Cook
Monte graduated from Jimtown High School in 1974 and he is now an assistant football coach there. He earned four letters each in football, basketball and baseball with the Jimmies. He set what was then a Jimtown season scoring record in basketball and was named to the all-Northern State team twice. Cook was county football scoring champion in 1973 and team MVP.
Brent Sachs
Brent is a 1993 graduate of Jimtown where he played football and baseball. He was three times team MVP, first-team All-State and an Indiana All-Star in baseball as a senior. He was quarterback of the Jimmies’ Class 2A state title football team in 1991.
Del Landis
Del graduated in 1951 from Elkhart High School. He earned 10 letters among baseball, basketball and football. He was NIC baseball batting champion as a senior, played for the Blue Blazers’ regional championship basketball team in 1951 and was a standout kick returner in football.
Paul Likins
Paul is also a 1951 EHS graduate, leading the Blue Blazer basketball team to two sectional championships and being named team MVP as a junior. He went on to play basketball at North Carolina.
Tish Lovan Landrum
Tish is a 1984 Elkhart Central graduate, earning four letters in swimming and being named Elkhart’s top female athlete as a senior. She placed in three events at the state swimming finals all four years and went on to a four-year career at Indiana U. where she was captain in 1988.
Albert Munet
Albert is a 1990 graduate of Elkhart Memorial High School where he earned four letters in track and field and three in cross country. A highlight was winning the state 800-meter title as a senior.
Wayne Gruber
Wayne graduated from Elkhart High School in 1952, being named the city’s male “Athlete of the Year” as a senior. He participated in football, basketball and baseball. He played football and baseball at Vanderbilt University, then at Indiana State.
David Summey Hunn
David is a 1932 graduate of Elkhart High School where he earned nine letters among football, basketball and track. He was state pole vault champion as a senior, then won a national college indoor pole vault title while competing for Western Michigan.
