GC cross country men 12th in GLI
The Goshen College men’s cross country team placed 12th among 25 teams in the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational at Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Goshen senior Sam Chenge was 28th (25:59 for 8,000 meters), junior Ben Bouwman 80th (26:24), senior David Rumsey 149th (28:59), sophomore Paul Versluis 254th (27:54), junior Nick Bouwman 363rd (28:02), junior Dietrich Eitzen 490th (28:45) and freshman Dvid Horst 629th (30:20).
Indiana Tech won the team title. Among the team’s runners was sophomore John Wainwright (Lakeland) who finished 58th (25:49).
Junior Doug Alles (West Noble High grad) was 392nd (27:32) as Indiana Wesleyan placed eighth. Sophomore Doug Slabaugh (Wawasee) finished in 28:53.
Taylor placed ninth as senior Braxton Fritz (Northridge) was 23th (27:11). Bethel was 15th. Junior Bryce Matteson (Elkhart Memorial) finished (30:19). Grace was 20th. Senior Josh McGuire (Elkhart Christian) finished 719th (30:34) and classmate Phil McGuire (Elkhart Christian) 863rd (31:12).

Maple Leaf women also in Grand Rapids
The Goshen College women’s cross country team placed 17th among 20 teams in the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational at Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Goshen senior Laura Harnish was 33rd (19:21 for 5,000 meters), junior Tina Peters 139th (21:36), freshman Rachel Nafziger 258th (22:35), junior Renee Miller 381st (22:56), junior Laura Stoesz 506th (23:15), senior Tessa Horst 633rd (23:21) and senior Rachel Versluis 761st (23:22).
Indiana Tech finished third. Freshman Karissa Cominator (Northridge) finished in 19:47. Bethel was 10th as freshman Jessica Scott (Concord) placed 76th (19:28). Junior Rebecca Prieb (Concord) finished in 21:15.

Emmy Gibson sets GC goalie record
Goshen College senior goalkeeper Emmy Gibson (Concord) broke the school record for career saves last week during a 2-0 loss at Taylor.
Gibson has 541 career saves, breaking the mark of 539 by 2004 graduate Megan Morris.

Whisler, Werst aid St. Francis cause
Senior Mary Whisler (Elkhart Central) scored a goal and classmate Alissa Werst (Concord) notched an assist, leading the University of Saint Francis women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over Taylor in Mid-Central Conference action Saturday in Fort Wayne.
