Luke Stephens wins baseball skills sectional championship

Luke Stephens of Goshen won the Northern Indiana sectional for his age group in the Aquafina pitch, hit and run competition at the U.S. Steelyards in Gary.

Luke, age 8, advanced by winning the local contest at Shanklin. In Gary, he was best among a field of 25 competitors ages 7 and 8.

Stephens will learn this week if he advances to regional competition at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Top scores from 12 sectionals are compared to determine who goes to Wrigley. The national finals are All-Star week at Yankee Stadium.

Luke, who attends Benton Elementary School, plays for the Cubs in New Paris youth baseball. Parents are Brent and Lisa Stephens.
