Wysong, Baker among champions at Angola

West Noble senior Jeff Wysong and Lakeland junior Aaron Baker were among individual winners in a boys track and field sectional Thursday night at Angola.

Wysong finished first in the 800-meter run (1:59.00) and Baker in discus (152-3).

West Noble’s 4 x 800 relay of junior Jose Gallegos, freshmen Joseph Landeros, Matt Price and Wysong placed first in 8:25.29.

East Noble amassed 130 points to take the team championship. DeKalb was second at 79, followed by Lakeland 64.5, Westview 63, Garrett 62, West Noble 60, Eastside 58.5, Angola 41.5, Hamilton 16.5, Central Noble 16, Fremont 15 and Howe Military 1.

The top four finishers in each event advance to next Thursday’s regional at Fort Wayne Wayne.

Also for West Noble, Gallegos moves on in the 800 (third in 2:04.95), senior Jesse Rodriguez shot put (second at 47-11), junior Kenny Kill shot put (fourth at 47-4) and freshman Andrew Huntsman pole vault (third at 12-6).

Advancing for Westview are senior Jesse Sherman high jump (second at 6-2), pole vault (second at 13-3) and long jump (fourth at 20-2 3/4); senior Andrew Lehman 1,600 (4:35.03) and 3,200 (third in 9:53.63), junior Trent Cook discus (third at 135-3) and sophomore Steve Baumgartner 110 high hurdles (third in 15.45). Senior Mike Kline, classmate Todd Richardson, sophomore Darrin Schwartz and Sherman were third in the 4 x 100 relay (46.16).

Other Lakeland qualifiers are Baker high jump (fourth at 6-0) and shot put (third at 47-8), senior Tracy Douglas 200 (third in 23.73), junior Josh Avery 400 (third in 53.34) and junior Bryce Jones 800 (third in 2:04.95). Junior Nicholas Brown, Douglas, junior Michael Kinney and sophomore Cameron Moore were second in the 4 x 100 relay (45.79); Avery, senior Paul Eastwood, senior Mike Johnson and Jones third in the 4 x 400 relay (3:33.0); Eastwood, Johnson, Jones and junior Rory Martin third in the 4 x 800 relay (8:32.68).
