Northridge physical
exams slated May 29
A physical examination night, for all current 8th through 11 graders, is planned at Northridge High School on Thursday, May 29.
Times are 6 to 7 p.m. for incoming 11th and 12th graders and 7 to 7:45 for incoming 9th and 10th graders. Location is the north lobby of NHS.
Cost is $25. Pre-registration deadline is Friday, May 23. Pre-registration consists of a completed physical form, code of conduct and a $25 check. Paperwork must be turned into the athletic office.
This year it is mandatory that physicals be conducted before any summer open play for the 2008-09 school year.
NorthWood basketball
camp for boys June 2-6
The NorthWood boys basketball camp is scheduled for June 2-6 in the “Panther Pit.”
Boys in 3rd-5th grades will attend from 9 to 11 a.m. and boys in 6th-8th from 1 to 5 p.m.
Cost of the morning camp is $40 and the afternoon is $50.

Ex-Raider Kyle Miller in
Texas for D-3 golf finals
University of Indianapolis sophomore Kyle Miller (Northridge High alum) is tied for 44th place with a 2-over par 72 Wednesday after the first round of the NCAA Division III men’s golf championship at Memorial Park Golf Course near Houston, Texas.
The tournament continues through Saturday.
Indianapolis is third in the team standings with an even par score of 280. Also for the Greyhounds, junior Justin Hueber had a 68, sophomore Seth Fair 69, freshman Blair Webb 71 and junior Kyle Pearson 74.
The Greyhounds overcame a nine-stroke deficit in the final round to win the Central-Great Lakes Super Regional at Red Hawk Run Golf Club near Findlay, Ohio, to qualify for the national championships.
Indianapolis finished with a team total of 306-290-289—885. Miller was tied for 14th among the individuals with a 76-78-71—225.
Miller has averaged 75.4 per round this season and 75.5 for his career.
Bachman, Futterknecht
receive baseball honors
Spring Arbor University junior Jesse Bachman (Northridge) and University of Saint Francis freshman Taylor Futterknecht (Elkhart Central) have been named to the 2008 NAIA Region VIII All-Region baseball team selected by the Mid-Central Conference and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference coaches.
Bachman, a right-handed pitcher, has an 8-2 record with a 2.43 earned run average in 70 1/3 innings. He has struck our 49 and walked eight.
Playing mostly as designated hitter, Futterknecht tied the MCC record with 46 RBI. He was third in the MCC in hits (64), third in home runs (9) and 20th in batting average (.344). His home run total was a school record.
Concord alum Mike Pratt
hitting .254 for Bellevue
Bellevue University senior catcher Mike Pratt (Concord) has started 20 of 42 games he appeared in for the 50-13 Bruins baseball team.
Pratt is batting .254 with 11 RBI.
Bellevue meets Jamestown (North Dakota) in a best-of-3 Plains Super Regional with the winner advancing to the NAIA World Series.
Michael Edison named
LaVille basketball coach;
Watson at Mishawaka
LaVille and Mishawaka high school have hired boys basketball coaches.
Michael Edison, former Plymouth standout and son of long-time Pilgrims coach Jack Edison, is the new LaVille coach. He takes over for Doug Snyder who resigned after three season.
Ryan Watson, 1998 Mishawaka graduate, takes over at his alma mater replacing Robb Berger who stepped down after eight seasons.
Carolyn Miller, Kim Hoefer
lead Spring Meadow event
Carolyn Miller had a score of 49 adjusted to 33 and Kim Hoefer had low putts with 14 in the Spring Meadow Farm Golf Club ladies league this week.
Eric Hartstein’s 37
leads Panther golfers
Senior Eric Hartstein carded a 37 to take medalist honors as NorthWood defeated Elkhart Memorial and Plymouth in a Northern Lakes Conference match at Christiana Creek Country Club in Elkhart.

posts 35 at Heron Creek
Lakeland defeated Angola and lost to Prairie Heights in a Northeast Corner Conference match Tuesday at Heron Creek Golf Club near LaGrange. Lakeland junior Cole Pechin was the medalist with a career-best 35.

Girls Track Sectional
Westview senior Tiffany Fisher, West Noble junior Chelsea Hite and sophomore Katy Mossburg were among ndividual winners in the East Noble girls track and field sectional Tuesday night at Kendallville.
Fisher won high jump (5-8), breaking her own sectional record of 5-6 set in 2007. Hite won the 400-meter dash (1:01.89) and Mossburg long jump (16-3 1/4).
West Noble finished first in the 4 x 800 relay as freshmen Rachel Peterson, Allissa Peterson, Allison Musselman and sophomore Carli Mast were timed in 10:02.75.
DeKalb won the team title with 122 points, followed by Garrett 98, West Noble 88, East Noble 87.5, Central Noble 53, Westview 50.5, Eastside 38, Fremont 32, Prairie Heights 21, Lakeland 18, Hamilton 9 and Angola 6.
The top four finishers in each event advance to the Fort Wayne Northrop regional Tuesday.
Also qualifying from Westview are junior Ashley Miller 400 (fourth in 1:03.03) and pole vault (fourth at 8-6), junior Ashley Roth 300 hurdles (fourth in 50.86) and freshman Erin Rockey 800 (third in 2:31.96). Miller, sophomore Nicole Jansing, Rockey and freshman Sondra Bellaire finished fourth in the 4 x 400 relay (4:24.80).
Others from West Noble are Hite 100 (fourth in 13.78), Mast 800 (second in 2:31.05), Rachel Peterson 1,600 (fourth in 5:32.55) and Allissa Peterson 3,200 (third in 12:01.87). Sophomore Diana Canul, Hite, freshmen Brandi Farlow and Madelaine Baczynski were fourth in the 4 x 100 relay (52.99).
Lakeland qualifiers are junior Jessica Workman 400 (third in 1:02.69), junior Emma Baker, freshmen Erica Shank, Zaphielle Whited and Workman were fourth in the 4 x 800 relay (10:50.09).
