House, Hence of Concord make college choices

THE GOSHEN NEWS

David House and JaVontae Hence, two key members of the Concord High School football team that posted an 8-2 record last fall have announced their college selections.

House, 6-4 (235) offensive tackle and defensive end, will attend Manchester College and Hence, 5-7 (170) wide receiver and strong safety, is going to Trine University.

House was a three-year letterwinner and a two-year two-way starter. He was an honorable mention all-Northern Lakes Conference selection, an honorable mention Associated Press Class 4A defensive end and an Indiana Football Coaches Association all-state defensive end. He was a team captain, the “Most Valuable” lineman and the mental attitude award winner.

“House did all that while missing three games due to an injury,” Concord coach Tim Dawson said. “He is a great pass and drive blocker. He is a very athletic lineman, who can do a lot of things on offense and defense.”

House will represent Concord in the North-South All-Star Classic this summer.

Hence was also a three-year letterwinner and a two-year two-way starter. He was an all-NLC selection twice. He caught 53 passes for 858 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior and carried the ball 11 times for 86 yards and a TD. He was a team captain and “Most Valuable” on offense. Hence had 11 tackles, 27 assists and an interception on defense.

His career receiving totals are 128 catches for 1,966 yards and 24 TDs.

Hence was an IFCA Class 4A all-state wide receiver.

“JaVontae is a difference maker in a game,” Dawson said. “He plays ‘big’ for his size and is a very exciting player to watch. He will fit into Trine’s offense.”

House and Hence were both two-year starters on Concord’s basketball team.
